ILOILO – Sports coordinators from 42 municipalities and one component city, including those from the Department of Education, will undergo a rigid training-workshop on physical fitness at Iloilo Sports Complex.
The training of trainers from May 27-29 is part of the continuing capacity development initiatives of the Center for Sports and Physical Fitness (CSPF) to effectively execute the sports development program of Governor Arthur Defensor Sr.
“Since last year, we have been holding series of trainings for our sports coordinators, project directors and commissioners to hone their skills and technical competence. This training will help them perform better,” explained CSPF Director Dr. Raymundo Lapating.
He underscored that sports coordinators must aspire for excellence in leadership, develop technical competence and remain passionate in their work in order for the province to attain peace and harmony through sports.
Sports coordinators in schools and municipalities are responsible for the organization and promotion of different sports programs to make sure that all has the chance to take part in the activities.
They also organize sport-related projects, classes, coaching, club development and training of student-athletes who will compete in local to national and international sports competitions.
Prior to the physical fitness training-workshop, CSPF organized a boxing tournament from May 25 to 26 in Brgy. Bagacay East, Maasin, Iloilo, wherein amateur boxers from the host town and Cabatuan compete for the gold medal.
A seminar on sports management and project development were also held in Casa Real de Iloilo on May 19 for the project directors, commissioners and municipal sports coordinators.
The grassroot football coaching, football festival, refresher course for coaches and referees and the summer camp for table tennis, which are scheduled this coming June, will be moved to July or once the funds for the said activities are available.
