ILOILO – Criminal complaints were filed on Tuesday at Iloilo Prosecutor’s Office against two suspected dynamite fishers who were caught by authorities over the weekend.
Violation of Section 92 of Republic Act 10654, amending Republic Act 8550, were filed against Marling Villa, 39, and Vincent Belaez, 30, of Brgy. Punta Batwanan, Carles town.
The two, including a minor, were apprehended on February 6, three kilometers from the shoreline of Baliguian Island, Brgy. Malangabang, Concepcion.
According to PO3 Charlie Asturias, the fish they caught went positive of cyanide when examined by Antonio Lobredo, a fish examiner from Iloilo Polytechnic State College-Concepcion Campus.
Prior to their arrest, four other fishermen were also caught using improvised dynamites off Bucot Is., Brgy. Taloto-an, Concepcion by the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force.
Composed of Asturias, PO3 Philipp Canoso, PO3 Emerson Cordero and PO3 Ariel Aragona, the task force filed the charges against Leonardo and Leomar Enocencio, Richmel Biatingo and Romel Ochoco on February 5.
The task force recovered from their possession two units motorbanca, two units of air compressors and 40 kilos of dynamited fish. These fishermen are now detained at Concepcion Municipal Police Station.
