Key persons behind successful coops hailed


ILOILO – Leaders who made significant contributions to the promotion of cooperativism have been recognized by the Provincial Cooperative Development Office during the culminating activity of 2015 Provincial Cooperative Month Celebration.

Hosted by the Municipality of Pavia, the celebration featured the contribution of Prof. Samie Billanes to the growth and development of the cooperative movement as this year’s Outstanding Cooperative Leader.

Billanes of Western Visayas Alliance of Cooperatives was also recognized for having been elected as Chairperson of the National Cooperative Development Council.

The same award was given to honor Joy Doronila Palmada, Chairperson of Pavia Entrepreneurs Multipurpose Cooperative (PEMC), for her exemplary contribution to the cause of women economic empowerment in the cooperative sector.

PEMC has been active in the promotion of social advocacy such as gender and development, environmental awareness, and livelihood employment generation.

It also has an active partnership with the local government unit of Pavia that contributed to the growth and development of community where it operates.

Leon Local Government Employees Multipurpose Cooperative was also recognized for being the champion in the 2015 Regional Cooperative Whiz Contest held last July 22-24, 2015 at La Carmela Resort and Convention Center, Boracay, Malay, Aklan.

Kooperatiba Naton Multipurpose Cooperative in Tigbuan also gave honor and prestige to the cooperative movement for being a regional finalist of the 2015 Cooperative Development Gaward Parangal for Most Outstanding Primary Cooperative-Small Scale Category.

The 2015 Provincial Cooperative Month Celebration ended last October 30 with the theme: “Kooperatiba: Ika 100 Taong Pagpupugay, Tulay sa Maunlad Na Buhay”. JAN
