ILOILO – The People’s Republic of China’s Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua is expected to visit this province on September 17-19 before the locals remember the second year since Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).
According to Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., the ambassador will be accompanied by Chinese Consul General Qui Jian and two other officials from Chinese Embassy in Metro Manila.
The chief executive added that Jianhua expressed to donate P1-million to help Iloilo in its post-Haiyan rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
“We are thankful of the ambassador’s help. Through this, we can probably construct a two- or three-classroom school building in Northern Iloilo,” Defensor said.
If the donation is not enough, Defensor said he is willing to earmark funds from the province’s coffers to compensate the needed budget following the specifications of Department of Education.
The ceremonial turnover of this donation will be on September 18 in historic Casa Real.
This help came over a month after Jianhua made a stand that China will remain to be “a good friend and good partner” to ten-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
“As a good friend and good partner, China will continue to give firm support to a stronger ASEAN, the building of ASEAN Community and ASEAN Centrality in the regional cooperation of East Asia,” Jianhua said during the 2nd Manila Times Business Forum held at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City last July 22.
