ILOILO — Ten persons with disabilities (PWDs) received their school allowances following the signing of their scholarship contract with the provincial government here recently.
Each scholar got a monthly allowance of P2,500, an annual uniform allowance of P1,000 and bi-semester book allowance of P1,000.
The scholars, who were mostly studying education, computer science and industrial technology-related courses, were entitled to full tuition and miscellaneous fees.
They must not have failing grades in order to maintain the scholarship provided by 2013 Persons with Disability Ordinance authored by Provincial Board Member June Mondejar.
Prior to the contract signing and distribution of allowances, the parents of PWDs also underwent an orientation and psychosocial training to ensure that they understand the conditions of the scholarship, as well as, their children’s rights under the law.
These activities were held in support to the celebration of 37th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week with a theme “Health and Wellness Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities Toward Inclusive Development for All”.
The observance from July 17-23 highlights the government’s efforts toward disability prevention and rehabilitation leading to the effective integration of PWDs into the mainstream of society.
