Iloilo raises 100 goats as livelihood aid

ILOILO – The Provincial Agriculture’s Office here will be raising one hundred pure breed inland-born Anglo-Nubian goats for future livelihood assistance to marginal farmers in Western Visayas.

The goat stocks from the Department of Agriculture Region 6 arrived on Tuesday in province’s 52-hectare goat farm in Barangay Calamigan, Concepcion town.

According to Provincial Agriculturist Ildefenso Toledo, the new stocks worth more or less P1.5-million are in addition to 34 existing cross-bred goats in the farm.

The upgrading of goat stocks is in fulfillment of DA’s memorandum of agreement with the provincial government.

“All of this is DA’s project and the province’s counterpart is the goat farm and breeding of these goats,” Toledo said.

Goats can give birth once a year and once the number grows, the stocks will be distributed to marginal farmers as livelihood aid, he added.
