Italy pours P26M post-Yolanda aid in Iloilo

ILOILO – Although it’s been over a year since the monster storm, Italian Ambassador Massimo Roscigno committed to work with Governor Arthur Defensor to ensure the province’s full recovery.

Roscigno and Defensor signed a memorandum of agreement on the implementation of P26-million integrated emergency initiative for the survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda.

It is in addition to Italy’s P53-million donation to the Philippines as part of their bilateral cooperation and support to strategic response plan to Yolanda-stricken provinces.

The assistance, covering mostly of livelihood projects, will also be given to affected communities in Tanauan, Leyte and Guiuan, Eastern Samar through an Italian non-government organization.

The aid will also fund some income generating activities through the purchase and provision of agricultural and fishery equipment to be donated to local agricultural cooperatives.

When asked why Iloilo was chosen among others, the governor revealed that the envoy’s wife came from Mina, his hometown.

“I think Iloilo is close to the ambassador’s heart because his wife is from here and for that, we are thankful and blessed,” Defensor said. #2015News
