Iloilo’s treasurer best in the region

ILOILO – The Bureau of Local Government Finance hailed the Provincial Treasurer’s Office under the leadership of Dr. Melba B. Sullivan as the best in Western Visayas.

Sullivan received the Excellence Award for its continued excellent performance in treasury service for calendar year 2013 during their annual pre-planning and year-end reassessment performance conference-workshop held recently in Iloilo Grand Hotel.

BLGF Acting Asst. Regional Director Rema E. Calderon also mentioned that Sullivan was awarded as the most efficient worker in the region based on the submission of quarterly reports on Electronic Statement of Receipts and Expenditures (eSRE), real property tax collection, among others.

Prior to this recognition, her office also won in the 2013 Search for Excellence in Local Governance of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The Excellence Award in Administrative Governance that Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. reaped was all due to project entitled Hublag Uno “Hublag Barangay: Lihok sang Agraryo Ginasuporta”.

The project is part of the Iloilo Comprehensive Agrarian Reform and Taxation, the first and only local revenue program in the entire Philippines that deeply embarks upon the symbiosis between different government instrumentalities.

The program reaped P366,467,516.37 taxes in 2013 which was 128 percent higher than 2012 collection of P286,192,138.75.

When asked of his reaction, the governor congratulated Sullivan and her staff for their hard work.

“The accomplishment of the treasurer’s office is the pride of the province and I am very happy of this news,” Defensor said. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno/Capitol News)
