ILOILO – Following his return from Manila, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. provided assistance to 21 families who lost their houses to tornado and landslide on Monday.
The chief executive distributed P5,000 cash to each of the five tornado-affected families from Barangay Dugman, San Dionisio and to 16 landslide-affected families from Barangay Pepe, Leon.
Defensor explained that the aid was part of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, an established program to help the poor, not only during calamities, but also during their hospitalization and burial.
“This is not new. We have been doing this for so long now because we acknowledge the need of our constituents who have less in life. Even the message of Pope Francis speaks about the poor constantly. What he said was clear – poverty should be given the highest priority,” Defensor said.
The tornado happened on September 18, 2014 while the landslide occurred on October 20, 2014. The assistance was released only this January 2015 due to late submission of requirements. #2015News
