ILOILO – To protect Ilonggos from traffickers, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will intensify the campaign against illegal recruitment in the province.
The campaign is in partnership with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The four national government agencies will provide technical assistance to the province to effectively conduct a regular information campaign on overseas employment and its potential risks.
The ceremonial signing held in Amigo Terrace Hotel also jump-starts the establishment of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) help desk in the Provincial Capitol.
The help desk will provide up-to-date information to the public of government programs and services for migrant workers and all the processes and aspects of overseas employment.
It will also act on concerns brought to its attention and refer the same to appropriate government agency.
The desk may either be staffed by the province’s Public Employment Services Office or any other person designated by the governor.
The information campaign against illegal recruitment will be held through the Pre-Employment Orientation Seminars and Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Seminars in barangays and municipalities.
Other activities are the Capability Enhancement Training for Guidance Counselors of all provincial schools, colleges and universities and Continuing Agency Education Program Seminar for officers and staff of all land-based and sea-based agencies operating in the city and province of Iloilo.
A Technical Working Group composed of not more than three representatives from the province and one representative each from other partiers shall develop and finalize the work plan of the campaign and monitor its implementation 30 days from the signing of MOU. #2014News
