ILOILO – Two thousand preschoolers in Badiangan, Batad, Concepcion, Estancia and Barotac Nuevo will be getting the support they need to combat malnutrition.
This is after Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. gave a total of Php600,000 aid to step up the towns’ supplementary feeding program in 188 day care centers.
The supplementation will be in a form of hot meals to be served during the children’s snack or meal time for one month.
Badiangan, Batad, Concepcion, Estancia and Barotac Nuevo are the towns with high prevalence of underweight preschoolers based on the Operation Timbang in 2013.
Of the 3,191 preschoolers, 16.8 percent are underweight in Badiangan, 14.2 percent in Batad, 13.8 percent in Concepcion, 12.8 percent in Estancia and 11.36 percent in Barotac Nuevo.
Province-wide, however, malnutrition rate dropped from 8.56 percent in 2012 to 6.97 percent in 2013, according to the Provincial Health Office.
In spite this development, the governor stressed that the local government units must continue to intensify the campaign.
The supplementary feeding program is just one of the many programs of the governor to free Iloilo from malnutrition.
Others are milk feeding, vegetable gardening, vitamins supplementation, and medical missions. #2014News
