ILOILO – The provincial government released P4.2-million on Monday to establish 14 new teen centers as part of Governor Arthur Defensor Sr.’s thrust to strengthen the development programs for the youth here.
Provincial Population Office Chief Ramon Yee said the project is on top of the existing 15 teen centers which have been operational in various public high schools from 2011-2013.
“We are thankful that the governor is always behind this project. He, himself, believes this can be of help to the youth, especially in values formation and alike,” Yee said.
Since the creation of teen centers, Yee added that the project helped heighten the awareness of the students and out-of-school youth of the risks associated with alcoholism, smoking, illegal drugs and pre-marital sex.
This year’s teen centers will be established in the following schools:
Miagao National High School
Tigbuan National High School
Tubungan National High School
New Lucena National High School
Leon National High School
Alimodian National Comprehensive High School
Badiangan National High School
Mina National High School
Pototan National Comprehensive High School
Duenas General Comprehensive
Passi National High School
San Enrique National Comprehensive High School
Barotac Viejo National High School
Milan National High School in Lemery
Each school received P300,000 and the funds will be used to procure information and education campaign materials, computers, board games, and other equipments for recreation or entertainment. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno/Capitol News)
