ILOILO – An initial P78.8-million aid from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will soon be downloaded to 21 municipalities that are severely affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda here.
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. said the funds will be released upon the signing of memorandum of agreement between the municipalities concerned and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council within the month.
The funds, according to him, will be used to rehabilitate or rebuild the damaged public markets, civic center and municipal halls of Ajuy, Badiangan, Balasan, Banate, Batad, Bingawan, Calinog, Carles and Concepcion.
The aid will also benefit the towns of Dueñas, Dumangas, Estancia, Janiuay, lambunao, Lemery, Mina, San Dionisio, San Enrique, San Rafael, Sara, and Zarraga.
Based on their recent meeting with Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II, Defensor said only the towns with the capacity to undertake the rehabilitation works on their own are qualified to get the assistance.
Before they can get the funds, a program of works with the detailed work plan must be submitted to DILG. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno/Capitol News)
