BACOLOD CITY, June 23 (PNA) — The city government of Escalante in Negros Occidental, with the support of Philippine Army and its barangay officials, has declared an all-out-war versus dengue.
City Councilor Angelina Encarquez, chairman of the committee on health of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, said the declaration enjoined all their constituents to destroy all possible breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Encarquez added that all the punong barangay in the city has been tasked to lead the Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue, a holistic approach wherein all the residents have to go out of their way to curb the disease.
On her part, Provincial Dengue Coordinator Josephine Nonato said the punong barangay, being in the frontline of this anti-dengue campaign, have to institutionalize the practice of 4’oclock habit and “4S” Kontra dengue of the Department of Health (DOH).
The four “S” stands for search and destroy breeding grounds of dengue, self-protection measures, seek early consultation when symptoms of dengue are observed and say “no” to indiscriminate fogging.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Patrick Cinco, commander of 3rd Civil Military Operations Battalion, urged the public to join them in this “war” by cleaning their own surroundings.
Cinco also assured that the 3rd CMO Battalion through its Army Broadcasting System will help the City Health Office in information dissemination campaign against dengue. (PNA)
