BACOLOD CITY, June 20 (PNA) — The provincial government of Negros Occidental awarded P400,000 scholarship to 52 school children belonging to indigenous people’s (IP) group in Barangay Marikudo, Isabela town Thursday.
The assistance, coming from the province’s Gender and Development fund, aims to finance the educational needs of IP children until high school and eventually college, provided the scholars have no failing grades.
The beneficiaries of the program are IP children enrolled in public elementary schools in Isabela, Sagay City, Cadiz City and Don Salvador Benedicto.
Negros Occidental Development Management Officer Hazel Torrefiel of National Commission on Indigenous Peoples thanked Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. for his continued support to IPs.
Torrefiel said IP scholars should always take advantage of the privilege given to them by the government by studying hard and be working professionals someday.
