BACOLOD CITY, June 18 (PNA) — About a hundred workers went jobless after tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan decided to temporarily stop the exploration operation of Philex Mining Corporation in Sipalay City.
This unfortunate event is confirmed to media by Sipalay City Mayor Oscar Montilla in a telephone interview.
Montilla, who is also saddened by Pangilinan’s announcement, said he expects the company to generate thousands of jobs once its operation goes full swing.
“Hopefully, the company would soon decide to go on with the project. We’re just worried that they may decide to transfer their investment in other areas,” Montilla added.
The temporary work stoppage in Philex Mining Corp. is due to subsequent attacks staged by the New People’s Army against the company.
The recent was last May 3 when the company’s bunkhouses located in Barangay Nabulao, Sipalay City were burned.
Pangilinan said they will only resume the company’s operation once peace and order in the area is established.
