BACOLOD CITY, May 21 (PNA)– Defending champion Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) has fortified its grip on top of Group B after an easy victory against Davao, 5-0, in this year’s PFF Suzuki U23 National Cup.
NOFA also previously tied with Cebu in Group A that has two straight wins in competition held at Gov. Mariano Perdices Memorial Football Field in Dumaguete City Monday.
NOFA’s title retention bid was shown after BJ Baguiro git the goal on the 4th minute; Joshua Beloya followed at 10th minute and Jimuel Ariola in the 11th minute.
Baguiro and Beloya scored two goals apiece, respectively.
The defending champion is aiming for its third game against win-less Masbate on Wednesday for its last elimination match.
Meanwhile, in the first game, Zamboanga-Dipolog avenged its loss to defending champion last Saturday to blank Masbate, 2-1, also Monday.
Zamboanga-Dipolog and Masbate were scoreless in the first half, but the aggressive plays of the Northern Mindanao team in the second half paid off with Allen Acopiado connecting in the 60th minute, and seven minutes later Elgen Antipolo find his mark in the 67th minute.
Zamboanga-Dipolog will face another Mindanao team of Davao on Wednesday too.(PNA)
