BACOLOD CITY, May 20 (PNA) — The representative of progressive party-list group has said that Smartmatic should refund the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the defective Precinct Count Optical Scans (PCOS) machines.
Bayan Muna Party-list Representative Neri Colmenares, who was here over the weekend, said Smartmatic must reimburse the poll body for the malfunction of its products.
The Commission on Elections earlier said that number of defective PCOS machines nationwide was minimal.
But reports coming from the volunteers of progressive groups showed that the units of defective PCOS reached almost 1,000.
In Negros Occidental alone, the reported defective PCOS machines based on Comelec records reached 69.
Same records also showed that there were 65 defective compact flash cards in the province.
Defective PCOS slowed down the election in 20 local government units while the faulty memory cards affected the transmission of votes that subsequently delayed the canvassing and proclamation of poll winners.
Aside from selling the PCOS machines , Venezuelan firm Smartmatic also bagged the multimillion-peso contracts to supply the CF cards and modems. (PNA)
