BACOLOD CITY, May 14 (PNA) — “We are shocked but the people have spoken. That’s politics,” said reelectionist Mayor Marxlene De La Cruz of Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on Tuesday after none of his family members who campaigned for office succeeded.
The incumbent mayor told the press that their family was shocked when most of them who run for public office this mid-term elections lost.
De La Cruz lost by 744 votes to independent candidate Lawyer Jose Max Ortiz based on the final tally.
The former garnered a total of 3,822 votes while his rival was leading with 4,566 votes.
His father, incumbent Board Member Nehemias Dela Cruz, also lost substantially to reelectionist Congressman Julio Ledesma IV, for the representative seat of the first congressional district.
Partial and official results showed that Ledesma was leading the race with 73,024 votes against De La Cruz’s father’s 46,509 votes.
His mother Vice Mayor Cynthia De La Cruz (3,766 votes) also lost the vice mayoralty bid to independent candidate Saing Delantar (4,147 votes). (PNA)
