BACOLOD CITY, May 2 (PNA) — Around 11.5 percent of the total qualified applicants was hired on-the-spot during the simultaneous jobs fair held in the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod yesterday.
Records from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) showed 366 out of 3,164 qualified applicants got hired on-the-spot upon interview in Western Visayas.
Of the total applicants hired, 335 were employed in the local and 31 were employed overseas.
Most of these newly hired employees were female or 240, according to DOLE Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom.
Aside from those hired on-the-spot, a total of 3,323 were sent for further interview and 486 were referred to Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for training.
The DOLE-led jobs fair was in line with the 111th celebration of Labor Day nationwide.
The jobs fair were held in Marymart, SM City Iloilo and SM City Bacolod and were participated by 152 local companies and overseas recruitment agencies.
It offered 37,377 job vacancies wherein 4,638 were available in the local and 32,739 overseas.
Topping the list of job vacancies is customer service assistant offered by the business process outsourcing followed by sales clerk and salesman/marketing by mall operators. (PNA)
