BACOLOD CITY, April 30 (PNA) –Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. led the recognition of Negros Occidental Scholarship Program scholars who graduated with flying colors from their respective colleges and universities Tuesday.
He also welcomed the new 128 NOSP grantees for the school year 2013-2014 in a ceremony at the Negros Occidental Multi-purpose Activity Center here.
NOSP scholars who graduated with honors were given Medals of Excellence and Certificates of Recognition.
About 16 scholars who graduated Cum Laude were awarded with P5,000 cash incentive each while two scholars who graduated Magna Cum Laude got P10,000 each.
In his speech, Marañon stressed that NOSP has been making a difference in the lives of deserving students and have helped them live a better future.
Aside from the governor, Provincial Board member Miller Serondo, chairman of the committee on education, and Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Ma. Lina P. Sanogal congratulated the scholars.
NOSP has eight categories namely, Pagkaon Scholarship, District Educational Scholarship, Indigenous People Scholarship, Provincial Educational Assistance for Capitol Employees (PEACE), Negros Occ. Provincial Medical and Nursing Scholarship (Medicine), Vocational Technical Scholarship, Degree Completion Scholarship, and Best of Negros Scholarship.
Under the scholarship program, scholars are freed in paying their tuition and other school fees. They are also entitled to receive P2,500 monthly stipend except for PEACE scholars who will receive P1,000 monthly.
They are also provided with P4,000 worth of book and uniform allowance per semester.(PNA)
