BACOLOD CITY, April 25(PNA)– Two runners from Western Visayas emerged as the the fastest in their respective divisions after winning the century dash in the 2013 Palarong Pambansa at Don Mariano Perdices Memorial Stadium in Dumaguete City.
The 17-year-old Christopher Lirazan of Romanito Maravilla National High School in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City and 12 year-old Berna Luz Talaron of Balabago Elementary School in San Joaquin, Iloilo dominated the secondary boys’ and elementary girls century dash.
Lirazan, a native of Barangay Binicuil, Kabankalan City and son of a policeman clocked 11.1 seconds ahead of Nor Romnick of Cotabato and Jomar Udtohan of National Capital Region with identical time of 11.3 seconds.
Lirazan also ruled the 400 meters clocking 49.7 seconds to become a double gold medalist in the division.
He also anchored the Western Visayas relay team that qualified Thursday for the finals.
Talaron, daughter of a driver and OFW in Bahrain, registered a time of 13.2 seconds ahead of CALABARZON Briceline Soriano and Bicol’s Geneive Aguilar who settled for silver and bronze medals respectively with identical time of 13.3 seconds.
Talaron made it a double gold medal when she also earlier ruled the elementary girls’ triple jump in 10.19 meters beating Cagayan Valley Leica Marie Antonio (10.14) and Missy Hannah Cacho of Ilocos Region (10.07).
Two Northern Mindanao runners were also the fastest runners in the secondary girls’ and elementary boys’ divisions.
Eloisa Luzon registered a time of 12.6 seconds to rule the secondary girls’ century dash ahead of teammate Glaiza Sallado (12.8), while John Ray Suaybaguio in the elementary boys’ clocking 12.2 seconds beating Central Luzon Jonathan Lagera and Central Visayas Enrico Avila registering identical time of 12.6 seconds.
Suaybaguio bagged two gold medals after he dominated the 400 meters in 54.6 seconds ahead of Jonathan of Lagera of Central Luzon (56.2) and Jan Mell Francis Gervacio of National Capital Region (56.7).(PNA)
