BACOLOD CITY, April 19 (PNA) — The Philippine National Police has urged the 13 escapees of Sagay City jail in Negros Occidental to surrender while the region-wide manhunt operation against them goes on.
Chief Insp. Edel Jose Manzano of Sagay City Police Office appealed to the families of the escapees to convince them to surface so as not to worsen the penalties of their actions.
Manzano said they already received an intelligence report that the group divided themselves and fled to different directions so they could not be easily captured.
He said they are also yet to confirm the reports from concerned citizens that they have seen some of them hiding in a hacienda in Sagay City.
Officer-in-Charge Provincial Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz has warned the public to stay vigilant since the escapees are “armed and dangerous”.
De La Paz also said all their units in the province have been alerted including their counterpart in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Meanwhile, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. directed De la Paz to intensify their intelligence operations to track the hideouts of the escapees.
Marañon said the personnel of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Sagay City should also “wake and shape up”.
The 13 inmates of the Sagay City jail who escaped were facing multiple counts of murder, homicide, frustrated murder, robbery and illegal drugs use.
They escaped Wednesday night after disarming the jail guard on duty using a smuggled gun. (PNA)
