BACOLOD CITY, April 16 (PNA) — Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. of Negros Occidental has filed a libel case against Pulupandan Mayor Magadaleno Peña over his “malicious” remarks.
Marañon filed the complaint before the City Prosecutor’s Office of Escalante City on April 3 but was only made public Tuesday.
In his affidavit-complaint, Marañon accused his staunch critic of relentlessly using the media “to maliciously impute a crime, status or circumstance tending to dishonour” him.
Since he became a public official, Marañon stressed that the honor and reputation of their family was never compromised for monetary gain or benefit.
Lawyer Marcelo Briones, a former provincial board member, stood as witness in libel complaint.
He said that the malicious publications against the governor “created a giant shadow of doubt” on the honor and integrity of Marañon as an experienced public official.
He also added that the acts committed by Peña are examples of dirty politicking. (PNA)
