BACOLOD CITY, April 15 (PNA) — The Negros Taekwondo Union (NTU)-Tigers will compete in this year’s Carlos Palanca Jr. Taekwondo National Championship after defeating their rivals here over the weekend.
NTU-Tigers amassed 16 gold and six silver medals to top the Visayas leg of the completion held at Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center.
Members of NTU-Tigers who will advance in the finals were gold medalists Marielle Berunio in grade school novice (112-120 cm) and David Pecha in grade school boy’s novice (120-128 cm).
Byron Abad in the grade school boys’ group 2 B (128-136 cm), Camille Miraflores in grade school girls’ advance group 3 (136-144 cm) and bantamweight (33-37kgs) cadet female advance also qualified.
Kathleen Dinsay, who dominated the grade school girls’ advance group 4 (144-152 cm) and featherweight (41-57 kgs) cadet female advance, will defend her championship belt.
Other finalists were Christian Ruiz in the cadet male novice featherweight (45-45kgs) and JJ Padilla in lightweight (45-49kgs).
In the junior male advance were Joshua Rosalia in finweight (45kgs below), Jason Locsin in the flyweight (45-48 kgs), Sam Arcigal in the featherweight (51-55kgs) and Tomas Barredo in light middleweight.
Stephanie Lamayo in flyweight and Julianne Barredo in featherweight will also compete in junior women advance.
The Hanah Taekwondo Team was 1st runner-up with nine gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals.
MDT-Owl of Cebu placed 2nd runner-up with seven gold, 11 silver and two bronze medals and NTU-Talisay as 3rd runner-up with six gold, one silver and two bronze medals. (PNA)
