BACOLOD CITY, April 15 (PNA) — Aspiring national boxers from Candoni town, Negros Occidental is this year’s overall champion in the recently concluded 20th Panaad sa Negros Boxing Tournament.
Candoni brought home the bacon after five of its boxers won in their respective weight categories in the final round.
They were Timothy Inlatera in the 26 kilograms (kgs), Jude Rendon in 40 kgs, Paul Telan in 42 kgs, Ryan Dave Basillote in 46 kgs and Rommel Oliveros in 52 kgs.
Inlatera defeated Kim Catedrilla of Himamaylan City, while Rendon, who will also compete in the Palarong Pambansa, won via unanimous decision against Mark Mahilum of San Carlos City.
Telan also won via unanimous decision against John Lawrence Cueva of Talisay City, as well as Basillote against Archie Moyani of Toboso town and Rommel Oliveros over Ricardo Sueno, Jr. of Sagay City.
The other four boxers from Candoni who lost their bouts were Niel Cyrel Basillote in 36 kgs, Christian Calapardo in 44 kgs, Joey Rivas in elite 52 kgs and Allan Vellespin in 56 kgs.
Basillote lost to Lerry Boy Llague of Toboso town, while Calapardo was knock down by Ronie Campos of Don Salvador Benedicto town.
Rivas, on the other hand, was defeated by Jonrel Casiple of Don Salvador Benedicto and Vallespin by Rolando Baulita, Jr. of Himamaylan City.
The champion team topped the rank ahead of Escalante City which has four winners in the finals.
They were Eduardo Luceno in 24kgs, Greg Pableo in 28kgs; Paulo Datoon in 30 kgs and Rogie Nardo in the elite 60kgs.
Don Salvador Benedicto sent five boxers to the final, including a lone female boxer, but won only three and lost two.
Their winners were Ronie Campos, Jonrel Casipe and female boxer Marivic Blancia in elite 38kgs.
Other winners were Palaro-bound Shechem Lirazan of Kabankalan City in 34kgs; Reymart Soledad of EB Magalona town in 32kgs, Geornie Alito of Toboso town in 49kgs and Jerosel Jungco of La Carlota City in another female bout for elite 48 kgs. (PNA)
