BACOLOD CITY, April 2 (PNA) — Metrowaste Solidwaste Management Corporation, the private waste collector of this city, is advised to follow the provisions of its contract with the city government to avoid hitches.
This is after the management of Metrowaste has courted the ire of some subdivision owners here due to delay in the collection of garbage in their areas.
To address the complaints, City Administrator Jhon Orola called for a dialogue with Metrowaste Operations Manager Manuel Baal and his staff on Tuesday at the New Government Center.
Orola explained that delay in garbage collection is due to limited number of functional dump trucks being used by Metrowaste since the start of its operation on March 16.
“17 out of their 25 dump trucks are functional. Of the serviceable dump trucks, 13 are collecting garbage from 5:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., ten have to collect from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and four from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.,” Orola told the press.
Orola added that available dump trucks can only deliver garbage to their sanitary landfill in Barangay Pelisa 27 times a day.
The management of Metrowaste has purchased additional dump trucks yet these are not yet delivered. The long holiday last week also added to the delay, according to the official.
Aside from sticking to the contract, Orola also told Metrowaste to come up with a route that each of its dump trucks has to follow to cover all areas in the city and maximize its use. (PNA)
