BACOLOD CITY, March 26 (PNA)–Two former chess wizards will clash to snatch leadership in this year’s 13th Negrense Professional Individual Chess Tournament this coming Sunday at the Top’s Bowling Lanes here.
Ted Ian Montoyo and Aguedo Docase, two former champions having 4.5 points after round 5, will clash in round 6 which are crucial for both of them to gain headway for the top position in round 7.
Defending champion PO2 Ernie Abanco continues to hold position in round 4 beating National Master Alan Severino in 29 moves of Benoni, but shortlived when Docase beat him in 51 moves of English in 5th round.
Abanco shared 4 points with two others; Nunilon Fulo III and Herbert Ciocon, Jr.. Fulo and Ciocon will battle in Board 2 in round 6. Abanco will face Eugene Manlapao (3.5) on Board 3.
Montoyo silently gains more points after he beat Engr. Leandro Severino in 28 moves of Larsen in round 4 and score through default against Marvin Ting in round 5.
This tournament is the only professional or degree holder chess tournament in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental being played for 7-Round Swiss System chess tournament.
At stake are cash prizes and trophies for the first five winners.
The champion will receive P3,000 cash and 42-inch, four-legged “King” trophy donated by Mr. Roy S. Villa, President/Chief Executive Officer of Buglas Bio-fuels Plantation, Inc. (PNA)
