BACOLOD CITY, March 22 (PNA) — The 20th celebration of Panaad sa Negros this year will be more fun and exciting with a series of sports events set from April 9 to 13.
Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel “Nonong” Verdeflor said the sports events will form part of the highlight of the celebration known to many as the “Queen of Festivals.”
First on the list of events is the holding of Mambukal Team relay at Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia town on April 9.
Verdeflor said the team relay will be divided in three categories – under 19, open and executive.
There will also be amateur boxing tournament throughout the celebration to be held at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan here.
Chess competition among boys and girls under 13 and 17 will also be held starting April 9 to April 11 as well as taekwondo competition for boys’ and girls’ under 13 and 18.
Athletics competition in boys and girls under 13 and 17 will commence from April 10 to 11.
On April 11, there will also be 3K road race for participants under 14 and for aged 40 and up and 5K race in open category.
On April 13, the Murcia to Panaad run will be held also and the top 100 male and 50 female finishers will also receive t-shirts.
Special sports events like “kadang, bow and arrow, bangkaw (spear) and palusebo” will also be held for province’s indigenous peoples. They will also participate in the athletics, boxing, chess and road races.
