BACOLOD CITY, March 18 (PNA) — Boxers from host Sagay City won four title bouts in the recently-concluded 17th Sinigayan Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament held in the city public plaza.
These champs were JasonReb Magbanua who ruled the 32-kilogram class against Jay Paul Beguiras of Escalante City; Paul Telan who beat Rodgie Sta. Ana also of Escalante City in 42-kilogram bout; Arnold Jetajobe who knocked out Ronnie Campos of Salvador Benedicto town in the 46 kilograms; and Rafael Sueño won against Arman Alpar of Cadiz City in the 53 kilograms.
Escalante City, on the other hand, did not left the boxing ring empty handed. Their team had three gold medals earned by Anthony Requero who beat John Aratajo in the 30-kilogram class.
Other champions from Escalante City were Greg Papleo who won the 30-kilogram match against Sagay City’s Marvin Jocsona; and Jojo Bulanon in the 40-kilogram match against Ricardo Sueño.
Boxers Clifford Celis and Crissan Paul Diacamos were the only winners for Cadiz City. Celis and Diacamos defeated Mike Duoma and Arnel Villacencio of Don Salvador Benedicto in the 40-kilogram and 51-kilogram bouts, respectively.
Two members of Team Negros who represented the province in the last Philippine National Games and the PLDT-Smart National Boxing Tournament also won.
Mac Mac Montinola pummeled Cadiz City’s Eric Hulleza in the 49-kilogram match and Jude Rendon, a Palarong Pambansa-bound boxer, won over Joven Mahipos of Escalante City in the 40-kilogram match.
Only their teammate Wenbell Panoga lost his match over Randy Duoma of Don Salvador Benedicto in the 46-kilogram.
Elmer Duoma is the sole winner for Don Salvador Benedicto against Escalante City’s Romeo Guanzon in 38 kilograms.
Meanwhile, Cristy Rivas of Bacolod City won over Bago City’s Rowena Abalayan in the women’s 60 kilograms.
Nine bouts among aspiring local boxers coming from different barangays in Sagay City were also held as preliminary matches.
The winners were Robert Deniega of Brgy. Bulanon in 24 kilograms; Adrian Azucena of Brgy. Paraiso in 32 kilograms; Eremero Edaño of Brgy. Pob-1 in 44 kilograms; Arnel Walban of Brgy. Pob 2 in the 40 kilograms; Ronald Deniega of Brgy. Bulanon in 46 kilograms; Mark Abian of Brgy. Pob 1 in 51 kilograms; and Michael Adolf of Brgy. Pob 1 in 30 kilograms.
The 17th Sinigayan Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament was part of Sinigayan Festival celebration of Sagay City on March 19.
It was organized by Sagay City Sports Coordinator headed by Benzon Fernandez and officiated by Negros Occidental Provincial Sports Office personnel Bert Alison and Cecil Oyos.
Provincial Sports Coordinator head and Executive assistant to the governor Angel Verdeflor oversaw the conduct of the boxing tournament.(PNA)
