BACOLOD CITY, March 11 (PNA) — The University of St. La Salle Lady Stingers wrapped up the title in the 2nd Canlaon City Women’s Open Volleyball Invitational (Pasayaw Festival) tournament late Sunday night at the city multi-purpose gym.
The USLS Lady Stingers defeated Bayawan Selection in the finals, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-11.
Former Philippine Volleyball Fedaration (PVF) president Roger A. Banzuela, the coach of the winning team, said that USLS won the title via a sweep from the elimination.
Ex-national youth standout Patty Orendain excited the crowd with her power smashing plays on good set ups by Kim Mendez, while 5’11” Royce Quijano, Charmaine Moralde, Fritz Gallenero, Rezzia Beng Gabo and freshman Graciela Mellizo jointly took care of blocking to frustrate their opponents.
Other team members are Tirza Yandal, Regine Abano, Cecil Apatan and Johanna Yanson.
The Lady Stingers won a cash prize of P7,000 and a trophy. Bayawan Selection went home with P5,000, while the University of Southern Philippines Foundation received P3,000 for 3rd runner-up and Toyota Dumaguete with P1,000 for 4th runner-up.
The tournament is part of Canlaon City in Negros Oriental’s “Pasayaw Festival”. (PNA)
