The festival’s name “Pasayaw” is a combination of “pasalamat pinaagi sa sayaw” or thanksgiving through a dance in English. It was created in celebration of the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, the city’s patron saint.

In previous celebration of the festival, street dancers used vegetables and other crops in thanksgiving for bountiful harvests that made Canlaon City the “vegetable basket and highland garden” of Negros Oriental. (PNA)
