San Carlos City to host PFF-Suzuki U23 on April 15-19


BACOLOD CITY, Feb. 25 (PNA) — San Carlos City in Negros Occidental will play host to the upcoming regional Visayas qualifying rounds of the Philippine Football Federation-Suzuki U23 National Cup on April 15 to 19.

Three giant football associations in the Visayas–Iloilo Football Association, Negros Occidental Football Association and Cebu Football Association -– will send their respective teams for the said tournament.

They will play a double round robin with the top two teams to advance to the final qualifying rounds on May 20 to 25.

Winners will play against two top teams from Luzon ad Mindanao to advance to the semifinals on May 27 to 28 and the finals on May 30 to 31, 2013, all in Cebu City.

Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Secretary General Cyril Dofitas said that other teams in the Luzon and Mindanao are having their own regional qualifying rounds.

The regional qualifying matches for Luzon will be held at UP Los Baños, Laguna on April 8 to 13, 2013, while in Mindanao it is going to be on April 15 to 20, 2013 in Davao City.

Competing for Luzon are Masbate Football Association, Laguna Football Association and Baguio-Benguet Football Association.

For Mindanao are North Cotabato Football Association, Iligan-Lanao Del Norte Football Association, Davao Football Association and Zamboanga Dipolog Football Association.

Dofitas added that in the finals, the teams will be bracketed into two groups but no team from the same region will be in the same group.

They will play in a double round robin with home-and-away format in the semifinals and finals, he said. (PNA)
